Mission
Mission Statement
To restore USS LST 393 and preserve the ship for future generations, to honor all American veterans from all branches of the service and all eras, and to develop a veterans museum to educate America's youth and general public about the role of those who served in the armed forces.
The USS LST 393 Veterans Museum is a Michigan non-profit corporation, created to restore and preserve USS LST 393. LST 393 is one of only two LST’s (Landing Ship Tank) remaining from 1,051 built during WWII. The corporation is incorporated under section 501 (c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
The USS LST 393 Preservation Association is governed by a Board of Directors and is organized exclusively for the following charitable, educational, and historical purposes:
- Restore and preserve USS LST 393
- Create and develop a veterans museum on board the ship to honor all those who served in America's armed forces and educate the public about their legacy
- Provide educational programs for students and the general public
- Honor all Americans from all branches of the service and all time eras
We raise funds through grants, donations, public tours, group tours, fundraising special events, and youth sleepovers. Every penny of raised funds are invested in the ship toward the realization of the stated mission. Whatever we do, it cannot be done without loyal and dedicated volunteers.
